Tapeless means codecs, and the choices of formats during file-based acquisition can be daunting. Ingest

While compressed, lossy codecs are great for hard drive storage space and chip size, they often can breakdown during post-production. Common challenges involve slow computer performance, decreased resolution, and less visual latitude during visual effects or color grading.
This is where onset tapeless ingest devices shine – they take video pre-compression from your camera, and record them into more robust, edit-worthy codecs that can standup to the rigors of post-production. Many of these solutions also create real time proxies of your media for asset management, mobile viewing and offline editing – and can also interface with your storage solution.

AJA's Ki Pro family span the spectrum, with easy to use baseband encoding products, including single channel DNxHD and Pro Res solutions (Ki Pro Mini), to more robust, larger storage solutions (Ki Pro) to rack mounted multiple input solutions (Ki Pro Rack) to larger-than-HD multi input solutions like the new Ki Pro Quad. Each of these solutions can ease the challenges of compressed codecs in post.
Cinedeck's EX, RX, and MX solutions set the standard for bridging the production and post production gaps with integrated, multi input encoders with easy to use touchscreen interfaces, and many codec choices to choose from to fit your productions needs.
