AV for Education: Classrooms, Lecture Halls, AV Control

In this blog and video, the Key Code Media team will take a look at the design, programming, and technology used for AV for Education: Classrooms, Lecture Halls, AV Control.

The demand for hybrid school/home workplaces in Education is pushing AV manufacturers to develop new products and solutions to help teachers, students, and administrators collaborate. Campuses are facing tough topics like designing smart classrooms, creating better audio and visual experience for remote attendees via Zoom or Teams, interactive smartboards, and making the entire campus easier to manage. Constructing classrooms that work best for students and facilities.

This goes beyond selecting the right video conference software like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meets. When you’re combing people at home, with people in a conference room, classroom, and lecture halls- there tend to be more complex Audiovisual elements like cameras, microphones, whiteboards, documents scanners, and device management.

In the video, our top AV engineers address the state of AV systems, sharing real stories and real examples of how schools are all addressing the challenges faced by their staff. Our panel spends every day solving these challenges.

Our goal is to help your team make better decisions while researching the equipment, the workflow, and the deployment of the right technology in your space. If you need help building out or improving your campus audiovisual workflow for meetings- don’t hesitate to contact Key Code Media.

A/V Technology For Classrooms

Let’s break down the essential elements schools should consider when adopting A/V technology.

Video and Cameras For Hybrid Learning

The camera or video source helps people visually connect with individuals at home, or in a larger lecture hall. For larger spaces, schools tend to go with flexible PTZ Cameras, which allow for a single camera to pan-tilt and zoom on individuals in a room- either manually or automatically based on whoever is speaking in a space. Some high-end production teams use video protocols like NDI, to turn their Zoom or Teams meetings into full video production.

Audio For Instructors and Students

Audio can either mean “audio inputs” – like microphones- or “audio outputs” – like speaker systems and soundbars. Microphones choices are extremely important as they can determine whether people can hear and collaborate in a meeting, or not. Advances in ceiling microphones have come a long way- and now provide a path for people to remove the need for microphones on a conference room table. Acoustical treatment can also play into the quality of audio in the room and users at home.

Unified Communications (UC) Systems

Unified communications systems provide control to a variety of technology within an AV system. There is often a complimentary touch screen device that allows you quickly join a virtual class, connect devices like phones and laptops, control audio, and switch outputs between displays, projectors, whatever playout devices are used in space.

  • Examples of UC systems Key Code Media offers: Crestron and Extron

Display

Displays can be as simple as a mounted TV, a video wall, LED or a projection system. In some cases, like classrooms, users are using touch-screen interactive displays that can be played out to people in a conference room and attending virtually.

  • Examples of displays Key Code Media offers: LG, Samsung, Planar, and Clear Touch

Other A/V Considerations

There are a variety of technologies that should be considered when selecting the right classroom, lecture hall, or AV Control solutions- document camera systems, Apple Airplay, room light control, and agenda display are a few other areas for consideration.

While all these individual pieces are simple to purchase, the challenge comes with selecting the right equipment for the application, connecting it together in a cohesive network, and making it simple to use for the people that are using it. This is where working with a systems integrator- Key Code Media can help. We’ll help your team select the appropriate system, install it, and service the systems with our 24/7 support plan.
