First Baptist Church Integrates Broadcast and Projection Systems

Key Code Media managed the integration of the broadcast and projection systems in the historic First Baptist Church in downtown Dallas.  This was part of a massive $130 million upgrade that added 500,000 square feet of space for worship, education, performance and rehearsal.

The 3,000-seat worship center features a state-of-the-art projection environment with a 150’ wide curvilinear screen above the staging area. A blended array of seven Barco 22k lumen projectors driven by four dual channel Cool Lux Pandora’s Box image processor/servers will create a remarkable visual experience unique to house of worship presentation.

The broadcast system features nine Grass Valley LDK8000 multi-format HD cameras, a Grass Valley 4.5 ME Karrera production switcher with dual control panels to serve both Imag and broadcast, Chyron and Pro Presenter graphics. Evertz handles routing, multi-view monitor processing, and terminal gear. A Clear Com Digital Matrix system provides all important intercommunications.

To enable convenient pre-production and monitoring, the system features a much smaller, yet otherwise identical version of the worship center projection screen in the production control room.  Seven DPS LED projectors receive distributed feeds from the Cool Lux processors, allowing church technical directors and producers to easily manage content preparation and in-event monitoring.

The project also included a custom SAN system to serve multi-channel ingest, play out and archival, along with multiple NLE systems is part of the package.
